Our work<\/strong><\/h3>\n

HRCP works in a range of areas, running the gamut from civil and political rights to economic, social, cultural and environmental rights. Our work involves:<\/p>\n

  • Collecting, digitising and categorising data on human rights issues reported in the press (with archives dating back to 1996).<\/li>\n
  • Steering public attention towards areas in which human rights have been denied or violated through consultations, seminars and conferences.<\/li>\n
  • Monitoring legal developments and presenting alternatives from a human rights perspective.<\/li>\n
  • Organising campaigns to raise awareness of human rights through public meetings and rallies.<\/li>\n
  • Lobbying with lawmakers, state institutions and autonomous human rights bodies to introduce and implement measures designed to check human rights abuse and promote respect for human rights by offering concrete alternatives.<\/li>\n
  • Conducting fact-finding missions to investigate grave human rights violations at the local, provincial and national levels.<\/li>\n
  • Helping provide redress to survivors of human rights abuses by referring complaints and grievances to the authorities concerned.<\/li>\n
  • Promoting democratic governance and the rule of law by generating ideas and pressure for constitutional and legal reforms, participatory democracy and communities\u2019 role in governance, fair electoral processes, the independence of the judiciary and legal profession, pro-people administration, and minimum standards for law enforcement agencies with respect to the use of force and protection of the rights of litigants and detainees.<\/li>\n
  • Training and mobilising human rights defenders to promote awareness, advocacy and intervention.<\/li>\n
  • Collaborating and networking with other civil society organisations, both domestic and international, on broad human rights themes as well as specific issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
