The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has released a study\u00a0titled\u00a0<em>Modern\u00a0<\/em><em>slavery: Trafficking in women and girls in Pakistan<\/em>,\u00a0which identifies\u00a0Pakistan as a source, transit and destination country for human trafficking.\u00a0Although it is difficult to determine\u00a0the magnitude of the\u00a0crime\u2014given lack of reliable data\u2014HRCP is particularly concerned by\u00a0the network of trafficking that exists\u00a0internally, spanning\u00a0sex trafficking, forced child labour, bonded labour, forced begging and forced marriage.\u00a0Economically vulnerable\u00a0women and\u00a0under-age\u00a0girls\u00a0are\u00a0targeted\u00a0in particular.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study\u00a0explains why\u00a0it is\u00a0difficult to address trafficking compared to other human rights violations\u2014from the dearth of reliable data on trafficking\u00a0and constant\u00a0underreporting to lack of implementation\u00a0of\u00a0existing anti-trafficking legislation. Moreover, the pervasive lack of awareness\u00a0of\u00a0the various dimensions of trafficking,\u00a0and gaps in coordination among stakeholders\u00a0such as the FIA and law enforcement agencies,\u00a0are\u00a0added challenges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report recommends that an effective\u00a0system to collect, compile and report data on\u00a0the\u00a0dimensions of\u00a0human\u00a0trafficking be developed\u00a0as a matter of priority.\u00a0The capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify and report\u00a0trafficking must also be strengthened immensely.\u00a0Finally, the government must allocate adequate resources\u00a0to\u00a0implement anti-trafficking laws, encouraging better coordination among stakeholders, with targeted interventions
