A. Rehman Research Grant <\/strong><strong>for 2022\u00a0awarded to\u00a0<\/strong><strong>lawyer\u00a0Usama Khawar Ghumman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Lahore,\u00a0<\/em><em>4\u00a0October 2022<\/em>. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is\u00a0pleased\u00a0to announce that Usama Khawar\u00a0Ghumman\u00a0has been awarded the I. A. Rehman Research Grant\u00a0for 2022. Mr\u00a0Ghumman\u2014a lawyer by profession\u2014will study the occupational health and safety of labourers in stone-crushing factories\u00a0in Punjab, particularly\u00a0their vulnerability to\u00a0silicosis\u00a0(a long-term lung\u00a0disease). His findings will be published and disseminated by HRCP.<\/p>\n<p>Instituted in honour of the veteran journalist and\u00a0former secretary-general\u00a0of HRCP, the\u00a0late\u00a0I. A. Rehman,\u00a0this\u00a0grant is intended to facilitate original research carried out in\u00a0different\u00a0areas\u00a0of human rights in Pakistan. This year\u2019s theme was labour rights\u2014an area especially close to Mr Rehman\u2019s heart.
